NTL BOYS TRACK & FIELD: THOMPSON PACES ATHENS IN THIRD-PLACE FINISH AT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS (24 PHOTOS) (2026-05-08)

ATHENS — Senior Alex Thompson ran on a pair of gold-medal relays to pace Athens in its third-place finish here Friday afternoon at the NTL Track & Field Championships at Alumni Field.

North Penn-Mansfield won the team title with 138 points, while Wellsboro was runner-up with 132 points, and Athens tallied 111.5 points. Wyalusing was fourth with 96 points.

Thompson teamed with senior Ryan Cook, sophomore Patrick Umber and freshman Avery Gorsline to win the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 3:31.46.

Thompson also teamed with senior Parker Wanck, and juniors Matt Rossettie and Lucas Persun to win the 3,200-meter relay in a time of 8:32.02.

Junior Graham Wanck placed second in the 1,600-meter run in a time of 4:26.95, while Rossettie was ninth in 4:47.96, and Persun was 10th in 4:50.56.

Wanck was fifth in the 3,200-meter run in a time of 10:13.67, while Parker Wanck was eighth in 10:28.21, and junior Alex Arcesi was ninth in 10:43.76.

Senior Chase Ingram finished second in the pole vault at 11-feet, 6-inches, and junior Holden McKeever was seventh at 10-feet.

Ingram finished fifth in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 18.02 seconds, and freshman Shayan Ankam was eighth in 18.61 seconds.

Senior Brenden Comstock placed second in the shot put with a heave of 45-feet, 7 3/4-inches, and junior Hayden Bartlow was eighth at 37-feet, 5 1/2-inches. Comstock finished third in the discus with a toss of 138-feet, 2-inches, and  Bartlow was fifth at 124-feet, 3-inches.

Cook and Umber teamed with juniors Ryder Morley and Brayden Westbrook to finish second in the 400-meter relay in a time of 45.04 seconds.

Cook placed third in the 200-meter dash in a time of 23.69 seconds, and Morley was eighth in 12.17 seconds.

Freshman Avery Gorsline placed third in a time of 44.12 seconds, while Ankam was 10th in 47.39 seconds, and junior Jacob Gorsline was 15th in 49.91 seconds.

Thompson placed fourth in the 400-meter dash in a time of 52.12 seconds, while Umber was seventh in 52.74 seconds, and Westbrook was 10th in 55.58 seconds.

Junior Zach Fisher placed fifth in the javelin with a throw of 140-feet, and Rossettie placed sixth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:09.04.

Umber finished seventh in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.1 seconds, and Morley was fourth in 23.93 seconds.

Freshman Iziah Bailey finished seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 39-feet, 6 1/2-inches, and Ingram was 14th at 35-feet, 7-inches. Bailey tied for eighth in the high jump at 5-feet, 6-inches.

Freshman Cy Yeager finished eighth in the long jump at 17-feet, 11-inches, and freshman Hudson Yale was 15th at 16-feet, 8 1/2-inches.

Athens returns to action Thursday and Saturday at the District 4 Championships Thursday and Saturday at Williamsport High School.
