UNION SPRINGS — Union Springs avenged an early-season loss with a 15-3 six-inning rout of Tioga in a battle of state-ranked teams here Tuesday afternoon in IAC crossover softball action.

The Wolves, ranked 11th in Class C, scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning to increase its lead to 9-3, then put the game away in the fifth and sixth innings.

The Tigers, ranked 19th in Class C, took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by freshman Kate Kithcart, but Union Springs answered with three runs in the home half of the inning.

The Wolves scored a pair of unearned runs in the second inning to extend their lead to 5-1.

Freshman Bri Lounsbury led off the top of the third inning a bunt single, and scored moments later on an RBI double down the left-field line to close the gap to 5-2.

After Feeko moved to third base on a passed ball, 8th-grader Maddy Rogers hit an RBI single to make it 5-3.

Tioga only managed two hits — singles by Feeko and Mya Freese — the remainder of the game.

Feeko doubled and singled, scored two runs, and drove in one run, and Lounsbury singled twice and scored one run to pace Tioga's eight-hit attack, while Rogers and Kithcart each singled and drove in a run.

Eighth-grader Olivia Shugars was tagged with the loss.

Tioga, now 11-5, returns to action Thursday against Union Springs in the IAC Small School Championship game.
