BINGHAMTON — Waverly scored multiple runs in every inning an 18-2 rout of Chenango Forks here Thursday afternoon in the STAC boys baseball regular-season finale.
The Wolverines scored two runs in each of the first three innings to take a 6-0 lead after 2 1/2 innings.
Waverly scored two more runs in the fourth and four in the fifth to extend the lead to 12-1 after 4 1/2 innings.
The Wolverines finished off the game with six runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Senior Hogan Shaw rapped out three hits, including a double, scored four runs, and had three RBI to pace Waverly's 12-hit attack, while junior Matthias Welles singled twice, scored three runs, stole three bases, and drove in two runs, and junior Ben Shaw was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI.
Senior Ronin Ault doubled, scored two runs, stole two bases and drove in two runs in the win, while sophomores Sam Cheresnowsky and Griff Walter each singled, scored one run, and knocked in two runs, and sophomore Jack Pipher singled and scored three runs.
Senior Derek Johnson singled and drove in two runs for the Wolverines, while senior Daltton Davis scored one run and knocked in one run, and freshman Axel Murray crossed the plate once.
Walter earned the win in relief, allowing one run on one hit, while striking out three and walking two in 2 2/3 innings.
Pipher started for the Wolverines, allowing an unearned run on one hit, while striking out six and walking one in three innings.
Waverly, now 17-1, returns to action Saturday at 10 a.m. against Vestal in the STAC semifinals at Mirabito Stadium in Binghamton.
