ATHENS — Top-seeded Athens will square off with second-seeded Montoursville in the District 4, Class 4A baseball championship game Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at Bowman Field in Williamsport.
Athens (17-3) and Montoursville (16-4) were the only two of the nine Class 4A programs in District 4 to post a winning record.
The game is a rematch of last year's semi-final match-up won by Montoursville, 11-1. The Warriors went on to win four more games before falling 5-4 to Indiana in the Class 4A state championship game.
The Wildcats losses this season came to Class 3A's top-seeded Wellsboro (17-2), Class 6A's top-seeded Williamsport (18-1), and East Rochester (12-7).
The Warriors lost to Williamsport, Class 3A's second-seeded Mount Carmel (16-2), Class AA's second-seeded Montgomery (17-3), and Danville, which missed the postseason at 7-13.
Williamsport topped Athens, 4-1, and beat Montoursville, 5-2.
