CORNING — Corning scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to seal a 4-0 win over Waverly here Monday in the semifinals of the STAC junior varsity softball championships.
The Hawks scored early, and led 1-0 into the bottom of the sixth inning.
Eighth-grader Carson LaFrance and sophomore Addison Temple each singled to account for Waverly's two hits in the loss.
Seventh-grader Sydney Donovan was the tough-luck loser, allowing three earned runs on six hits, while striking out nine and walking two in six innings of work.
Waverly 14, SVEC 2, 5 innings
On May 9, Waverly wrapped up the regular season at home with a 14-2 win over SVEC.
Donovan earned the win, allowing one earned run on one hit, while striking out 11 and walking five in five innings of work.
Eighth-grader Phoebe Minaker stroked three singles, scored one run, and had one RBI to pace Waverly's nine-hit attack, while sophomore Bella Root tried, scored two runs, and drove in two runs, and 8th-grader Layla Oechslin tripled, scored one run, and knocked in two runs.
Donovan and 8th-grader Kendall North each singled and scored two runs, while Temple singled, scored two runs, and stole one base, 8th-grader Claire Seager singled, scored one run, and drove in one run, LaFrance scored two runs, 8th-grader Harper Hillman crossed the plate once, and sophomore Emily Banansky was hit by a pitch.
Waverly finishes the season with an 11-4 record.
