ROSSI PACES LADY TIGERS WITH PAIR OF SECOND-PLACE FINISHES

NEWARK VALLEY — Tioga senior Gavin Albrecht, the reigning Class C state champion, earned the right to defend his title with a school-record vault here Thursday afternoon at the Section IV, Class C Track & Field Championships.

Albrecht, who won a state gold medal with a vault of 15-feet last year, cleared the bar at 15-feet, 1-inch Thursday to hit the state standard and qualify for the State meet in two weeks.

Sophomore Vida Rossi had a pair of second-place finishes for the Tigers, and senior Dominic Palmer had one second-place finish.

The top three place-finishers in every event advance to next week's state qualifier. Others will advance based on "provisional" performances and "automatic" performances. The full field will be determined Friday.

TIOGA BOYS FINISH 10TH AT CLASS C MEET
Albrecht won the pole vault, clearing the bar at a season-best 15-feet, 1-inch, and sophomore Jed Decker was 11th at 7-feet, 6-inches.

Palmer placed second in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 16.24 seconds. 

Senior Talon Wood placed fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 11:39.42. Wood finished 10th in the 3,200-meter run in a time of 11:35.14.

Senior James Miller finished seventh in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:03.23. Miller was 14th in the 200-meter dash in a tie of 24.74 seconds.

Palmer was eighth in the high jump at 5-feet, 2-inches. He also finished 17th in the long jump with a leap of 16-feet, 2-inches.

Juniors Markel Watkins and Bailey Rugh finished tied for 17th in the discus with a throw of 100-feet, 1-inch.

Watkins was 18th in the shot put with a heave of 35-feet, 7 1/4-inches, and  Rugh was 22nd at 34-feet, 4 1/2-inches.

LADY TIGERS FINISH 11TH IN 16-TEAM FIELD
Rossi placed second in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.56 seconds. Rossi also placed second in the long jump with a leap of 17-feet, 1-inch.

Rossi teamed with freshmen Grace Howey and Natalie Kemp, and junior Sadie Marshall teamed to finish third in the 400-meter relay in a time of 52.9 seconds.

Marshall finished seventh in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 18.16 seconds.

Kemp finished eighth in the 400-meter run in a time of 1:06.54.

Junior Kendall Ward finished 10th in the discus with a toss of 71-feet, 2-inches, and junior Sara Prough was 15th at 65-feet, 1-inch.

Prough (21-feet, 11 1/2-inches) and Ward (21-feet, 5 1/2-inches) finished 17th and 18th, respectively in the shot put.

Sophomore Cora Szymanski was 22nd in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 7:31.68.

Tioga returns to action Wednesday at Thursday at the Section IV State Qualifier at Union-Endicott.
