SYRACUSE — Waverly High School football coach Jason Miller has been named the President of the New York State High School Football Coaches Association.
"It is an honor to be elected as President of the association," said Miller. "I have been provided the opportunity to assist in growing this sport in a state that is setting a high standard in football — for girls and boy — through this great game.
"I am proud to represent Waverly High School and Section IV in this capacity," added Miller. "I replace another Section four longtime coach, Steve Virkler, who has served tremendously the interests of every program in this state very admirably and with the utmost professionalism."
The membership of the association is coaches from all levels of high school football in NY State. There are currently more than 620 schools in the 12 sections in NY State that play football. The NYSHSFCA is represented in all Sections and the association has membership in place from Long Island to Buffalo.
Annually, the NYSHSFCA holds one of the largest high school coaches’ clinics on the East Coast in March at Turning Stone Casino. The association also hosts the annual NY State 7-v-7 Championships for girls flag and boys football at Cortland State University in July.
The mission of the organization is to represent all of the 6,000 high school football coaches in New York state. Every year, the NYSHSFCA honors coaches of the year, players of the year, and other special honors such as the 12th man award and media service of the year.
Miller will serve a two-year term starting June 1, 2026. He will represent NY coaches at the annual American Football Coaches Association meeting in January, this year to be held in Indianapolis, Indiana. Other duties include, in conjunction with Sectional representatives, coordinating all NYSHSFCA activities.
