ROCHESTER — Waverly baseball finds itself in uncharted territory Friday afternoon after its win Tuesday in the opening round of the New York State Class A baseball playoffs.

The Wolverines, now 22-4, travel to ESL Ballpark in Rochester to take on Section VI champion Grand Island (19-4).

Waverly, ranked third in the state, edged Scotia-Glenville, ranked 17th, 2-1, in the opening round, while Grand Island, ranked 10th, blanked fourth-ranked Pittsford-Sutherland, 4-0.

Two of Grand Island's losses came to Niagara Falls, ranked 11th in Class AAA.
