WEBSTER — Waverly’s Kezlyn DeKay, Gianna Soprano and Kaylin Twedt made their debuts at the 2026 NYSPHSAA Track & Field Championships at Webster Schroeder High School here Saturday.
The trio failed to reach the podium, but the good news is each of them will have an opportunity to make amends in 2027 if they so choose. Soprano and Twedt are sophomores while DeKay is an 8th-grader.
Twedt would place 13th in the Class B girls 400-meter dash with a time of 59.51 seconds. She was seeded 13th coming into the meet.
Soprano was unable to meet the 9-foot qualifying height in the girls pole vault. Her best vault this season was 8-6.
DeKay suffered a disqualification in the 100 hurdles.
Day 2 of the state meet begins at 9 a.m. Sunday with the Wolverines’ Troy Beeman competing in the boys discus throw. He’s seeded 11th in Class B with a throw of 146-8.
