Valley Sports ReportTOWANDA — Molly McGrath tossed a perfect game as Athens completed East pool play at 2-0 with a 17-0 three-inning win over Towanda here Sunday in the District 15 Majors Division softball playoffs.
On Wednesday, Athens opened pool play with a 22-2 three-inning win over Canton.
Athens 17, Towanda 0
McGrath struck out eight of the nine batters she faced in earning the win.
Athens scored nine runs in the first inning, and never looked back.
McGrath singled twice, scored two runs, and had three RBI, and Sadie Wanck singled twice, scored three runs, and drove in one run to pace Athens' nine-hit attack.
Lindsay Ahern and Livia Powers Each had one hit, two runs scored and two RBI in the win, while Teriana Owen doubled, scored two runs, and knocked in one run, Kendall Butcher and Nora Morales each singled, scored one run and drove in one run.
Sophia Barrett scored two runs and drove in one run for Athens, while Hadley Liechty and Haylee B each scored one run, and Khloe Butcher drove in one run.
Athens 22, Canton 2
At Canton, Hadley Liecthy and Molly McGrath combined on a no-hitter, and Athens scored 11 runs in the top of the third inning to close out the game.
Liecthy earned the win, allowing one unearned run, while striking out two and walking one in two innings of work.
McGrath allowed one run on two walks, while striking out two in an inning of relief.
Livia Powers stroked three singles, scored two runs, and had three RBI, while Liechty doubled and singled, scored two runs, and had five RBI to pace Athens' 10-hit attack.
Teriana Owen doubled, scored three runs, and drove in one run in the win, while CeCe Shangraw doubled, scored one run, and had two RBI, and Sophia Barrett singled and scored three runs.
Linda Ahern singled and scored two runs for Athens, while Sadie Wanck scored two runs, and knocked in one run and Kendall Butcher scored a pair of runs, and Haylee Bickhart and Nora Morales each crossed the plate once.
Athens returns to action Thursday when it hosts the winner of Tuesday's game between Wellsboro and Towanda.
