VALLEY SPORTS REPORT: TIOGA'S ROGERS HEADLINES ALL-VALLEY SUPER 7 AS 'GIRLS NEWCOMER OF THE SPRING' (2026-06-21)

THE VALLEY — Eighth-grader Maddie Rogers stepped into arguably the toughest position on the softball diamond, and was a key contributor Tioga from Day 1. She is the Valley Sports Report All-Valley "Girls Newcomer of the Spring."

Rogers hit .406 (28 hits in 69 ABs) with two doubles, one triple, 14 RBI and 19 runs scored. She also walked 11 times for a .488 on-base percentage and stole six bases.

Behind the plate, Rogers deftly handled her pitchers, and she threw out five runners attempting to steal.

Kezlynn DeKay, 8th-grader, Waverly track & field:
DeKay won Section IV gold in the 100-meter hurdles at the State Qualifier, and also ran on the 400-meter relay that finished second. 

DeKay was eighth in the hurdles at the STAC meet, and ran on the 400 relay team that finished fourth.

Kyah Nelson, sophomore, Tioga softball: Nelson hit .408 (20 hits in 49 ABs) with a slugging percentage of .612 and a 1.075 OPS. She had five doubles, one triple, one home run, 14 RBI, 14 runs scored, and three stolen bases.

Olivia Shugars, 8th-grader, Tioga softball: Shugars hit .275 (14 hits in 51 ABs) with two doubles, one home run, 13 RBI, and 18 runs scored.

On the mound, Shugars was 3-1 with a 2.95 ERA. She struck out 22 and walked 13 in 19 innings in the circle.

Billie Wennie, freshman, Athens track & field: At the NTL Championships, Wennie placed sixth in the 200-meter dash (27.86 seconds) and seventh in the 100-meter dash (13.43). She also ran on the third-place 1,600-meter relay team.

She placed 15th at Districts in the 100 in a time of 13.67 seconds.

Stella Unger, freshman, Athens track & field: At the NTL Championships, Unger finished 10th in the 1,600-meter run (5:54.43), and 10th in the 800-meter run (2:40.53). She also ran on the third-place 3,200-meter relay (11:17.8).

At Districts, Unger ran on the 3,200-meter relay team that placed sixth.

Mya Freese, 8th-grader, Tioga softball:
Freese hit .343 (12 hits in 35 ABs) with one double, five RBI, eight runs scored, and two stolen bases for the Tigers.
