Valley Sports ReportATHENS — Southern Tioga roared back late from a six-run deficit to pull out a 9-8 win over Athens here Tuesday evening in the winner's bracket finals of the District 15 Little League Majors Division softball playoffs.
Athens now hosts Wellsboro Wednesday in the consolation bracket finals, with the winner playing at Southern Tioga Friday.
Athens, playing as the visiting team, scored four runs in the top of the first inning, and extended its lead to 6-0 with two runs in the fourth inning.
Southern Tioga plated eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take an 8-6 lead.
Athens tied the game at 8-8 with two runs in the top of the sixth inning, but Southern Tier scored an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth for the walk-off win.
Lindsay Ahern was 3-for-3 with two doubles, one run scored, and four RBI, while Teriana Owen singled twice and scored three runs, and Sophia Barrett tripled and singled, and scored two runs to pace Athens' 12-hit attack.
Sadie Wanck singled twice and scored two runs for Athens, while Livia Powers singled and drove in two runs, and Nora Morales and Cece Shangraw each added a single.
Molly McGrath fanned 14 and walked eight, allowing six runs on no hits in 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision.
