Valley Sports ReportSAYRE — Athens scored four runs in each of the first two innings on its way to a 12-0 four-inning win over Sayre here Tuesday evening in District 15 Minors Division baseball pool play action.
Athens added a run in the third inning, then scored three times in the top of the fourth to extend its lead to 12-0, and set the stage for the 10-run "mercy" rule to be invoked.
Jorey Raupers struck out five and walked three in two hitless innings on the mound for Athens, and Witten Altieri fanned six and walked one, allowing three hits in two innings of scoreless relief.
Colson Bishop was 3-for-3 with a triple and a double, three runs scored, and six RBI, and Altieri doubled twice and drove in three runs to pace Athens' eight-hit attack.
Hudson Glielmi doubled and singled, and scored three runs in the win, while Holden Zukerman singled and scored one run, Moyer Campbell scored one run and drove in one run, and Jorey Raupers, Jett Raupers, Reed Swingle, and Briley Owens each scored one run.
Gavin Roof and Jackson Shannon each doubled, and Jaxon Morgan singled to account for Sayre's three hits.
Athens, now 3-0, finishes off pool play Thursday when it hosts Troy, while Sayre, 0-3, hosts Towanda Saturday.
