ATHENS — Athens rapped out 18 hits, including seven for extra-bases, in a 17-3 four-inning win over Wellsboro in the consolation bracket finals in the District 15 Little League softball Majors Division playoffs.
Athens will play at Southern Tioga Friday, needing a win to force a decisive winner-take-all game on Sunday in the double-elimination tournament.
Athens, playing as the visiting team, scored four runs in the top of the first inning, then poured nine across the plate in the second to take a 13-2 lead.
Athens added four runs in the top of the fourth to extend the advantage to 17-3.
Livia Powers was 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored, and two RBI, while Hadley Liechty singled twice, scored two runs, and had three RBI, Lindsay Ahern doubled and singled, scored two runs, and drove in three runs, and Teriana Orshal tripled and doubled, scored three runs, and knocked in one run.
Sadie Wanck singled twice, scored three runs, and drove in one run in the win, while Nora Morales singled twice, scored one run, and drove in two runs, and Molly McGrath tripled and singled and knocked in one run.
Sophia Barrett doubled an scored two runs for Athens, while Kendall Butcher tripled and scored one run, and Khloe Butcher singled and scored one run.
Liechty earned the win for Athens, allowing three runs on seven hits, while striking out four and walking three in four innings of work.
