ATHENS — Southern Tioga scored a 4-3 walk-off win over Athens in unusual fashion here Friday evening in the opening round of bracket play in the District 15 Majors Division baseball playoffs.
Athens, playing as the visiting team, built a 3-0 lead with a run in the top of the third inning, and two runs in the fourth, but Southern Tioga plated three runs in the home half of the fourth to tie the game.
With the game still tied in the bottom of the sixth, Southern Tioga's lead-off hitter was hit by a pitch. After a singled and two strikeouts, a walk loaded the bases, and another batter was hit by a pitch to force home the winning run.
Bentley Stephens singled, scored one run, and drove in one run, while Parker Collum singled and had one RBI, and Leo Loziere singled and scored one run in Athens' six-hit attack.
Easton Hubbard doubled for Athens, while Beau Hall and Landon Briggs each added a single.
Hubbard started for Athens and allowed one run, with eight strikeouts and three walks in 3 1/3 innings of no-hit ball.
Loziere fanned four and walked one in 1 2/3 innings, allowing one run on one hit.
Athens returns to action Sunday at Elkland in the opening round of the consolation bracket.
