CORNING — Corning-Painted Post scored nine runs in the second inning on its way to a 16-1 four-inning win over Waverly here Thursday evening in semifinals of bracket play in the District 6 Little League Baseball Minors Division playoffs.
Waverly, playing as the home team, took a 1-0 lead early with a run in the bottom of the first inning, but C-PP took a 9-1 lead after two innings.
C-PP tacked on a run in the third inning to make it 10-1, then brought the "mercy" rule into play with six runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Marcel Phillips singled and scored one run, and Nate Eck, Ryder Wolcott, and Keatley DeKay each added a single to account for Waverly's four hits.
