WAVERLY — The Waverly football, flag football, and wrestling teams received donations recently from the Waverly Sports Complex.

Waverly football coach Jason Miller was very appreciative of the donation to the Quarterback Club, which is independent of the school district.

"We spent a lot of money throughout the summer going to camps, going to tournaments, staying in hotels, and this donations helps us with that and allows us to do things we might not otherwise have the opportunity to do," he said.

"The facility is something the Valley community has had access to," noted Miller. "I think it's an opportunity for kids on an individual basis if they have personal trainers to use this facility if they can't get into the school.

"If they have their own trainer. They're certainly welcome to come down here," said Miller. "I think it has served a lot of players in the past.

"More importantly, we appreciate donation to the Quarterback Club," added Miller. "The kids will benefit from it."

Shaw notes that several of his players are multi-sport athletes and have used the complexion in their training.

"It's just a great place to practice when the weather is bad," he said. "There is plenty of room and Natalie Richetti) is very easy to work with, and always looking for ways to help kids improve.

"A lot of our kids have gone there for the BX training, and it certainly made a difference.

"I'm just thankful for the complex and their willingness to help kids in the Valley," added Shaw. "It gives them a place to go to improve in multiple ways."

"The Waverly Sports Complex has been great supporters of Waverly youth sports," said Waverly assistant wrestling coach A.J. Aronstam. "Their donations have allowed the Waverly wrestling club to send our girls and boys to top camps and clinics in the offseason.

"We appreciate Natalie' and Rob's (Walter) generosity and the support of everyone at the Waverly Sports Complex," he added.

The complex, which is run by Natalie Richetti and Rob Walter and is located on Broad Street, has also had several other Valley teams use it recently, including the Athens baseball, and Waverly softball teams.

"We used the Complex this past offseason a couple times a week," said Waverly softball coach Brent Doane. "They were great there, very accommodating.

"The space was perfect for us, we were able to get about 30 to 35 players in there comfortably," he noted. "With twin batting cages, we really were able to maximize reps.

"They have a weight training area as well as enough room for ground balls and pitching.

"And Natalie is wonderful to work with, too," added Doane. "It was pivotal in our success this season."

"We were able to have our varsity baseball team practice at the Waverly Sports Complex several times during our season," said Athens baseball coach Charlie Havens. "It definitely helped during rainy days.

"Natalie and Rob couldn’t have been easier to work with, and were more than generous to our young men," he noted.

"It's an impressive facility that offered everything our team needed for an indoor practice," added Havens. "It also helped ease the logjam at the Athens gym."
