Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY — Troy knocked off eighth-seed Candor to win the Waverly Summer League Varsity Boys Basketball Summer League title here Wednesday night, while Waverly was eliminated in the semifinals, and Athens in the quarterfinals.
Troy, the second seed, opened the night with a 53-38 win over seventh-seeded Wellsboro in the quarterfinals, then edged third-seeded Waverly, 47-44, in the semifinals.
In the finals, Troy topped Candor, 53-35.
Candor, the eighth seed, beat regular-season champ and top seed Elmira, 46-37, in the quarterfinals. Candor then edged fourth-seeded Towanda, 49-48, in overtime.
Waverly, the third seed, edged sixth-seeded Corning, 48-46, in the quarterfinals, while fifth-seeded Athens dropped a 62-48 decision to Towanda in the the quarterfinals.
