WELLSBORO — Athens, led by senior Eli Hicks, had three of the top eight golfers here Monday afternoon at Tyoga Golf Course to place second in the opening NTL boys golf match of the season, while freshman Kam Schrader led Sayre.
Towanda's Boom Thompson shot a 3-under par round of 68 to earn low-medal honors, while his teammate Owen Savercool was second on the day with a 77. The Black Knights shot a four-player aggregate score of 305, while the Wildcats carded a 327, and third-place Wellsboro had a 344.
Graham Welles and Jason Wickwire each shot rounds of 80 to tie for fourth on the day for the Black Knights, and Harper Welles tied for eighth with an 82.
Hicks was third in the individual standings with a 78 to pace Athens, while junior Ty Owen was tied for sixth with an 81, and senior Lucas Greninger was tied for eighth with an 82, and senior Colin Congdon shot an 86.
Sophomore Jacob Saxon and senior Duncan Thetga added non-scoring rounds of 87 and 93 for the Wildcats.
Schrader shot a 95 in his first varsity match to pace the Redskins, while senior Shaine Strickland had a 105, senior Caleb Grover added a 114, and junior James Leonard tacked on a 120. Senior Rommel Suba had a non-scoring round of 123 for the Redskins
NTL golfers return to action Wednesday at the Towanda Country Club.
