TIOGA CENTER — Owego Free Academy scored three first-quarter goals en route to a 6-0 win over Tioga in the opening round of the Tioga County Field Hockey Tournament here Friday afternoon at Haggerty Field.
Aurelia Kneller, off a feed from Eva Crawford, scored about 3 1/2 minutes into the game to put to give the River Hawks a 1-0 lead.
Aubrey Schmidt added a goal with 3:38 remaining to make it 2-0. May Daly was credited with an assist.
Schmidt scored on an unassisted goal with 2 seconds remaining in the opening stanza to up the Owego advantage to 3-0.
Natalee Silvanic scored a pair of goals in a three-minute span in the third quarter to extend the lead to 5-0.
Chloe Smith tacked on a fourth-quarter goal to provide the final margin.
Owego had a 12-7 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 7-3 edge in penalty corners.
Vangie Decker had six saves in net for the Tigers.
SVEC rolled to a 12-0 win over Newark Valley in the other opening-round game, and will square off with Owego at 11:30 Saturday at Haggerty Field in the championship game.
Tioga will play Newark Valley in the consolation game at 10 a.m.
