EAST HARTFOD, Conn. — Waverly grad Xavier Watson, a sophomore on the Division UConn football team, started, and recorded his first collegiate reception in the Huskies' season-opening, 56-7, win over Lafayette here Saturday afternoon at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentshcler Field.

Watson, a 6-4, 243-pound tight end, had one catch on the day, a 12-yard completion in the first quarter for a first down at the Lafayette 23. Upon scored four plays later to take a 14-0 lead.

UConn returns to action next Saturday when it hosts Maryland.
