TIOGA CENTER — Tioga equalled its win total from 2025 here Saturday with a 2-0 win over Newark Valley in the consolation game of the Tioga County Field Hockey Tournament at Haggerty Field.
Junior Cora Szymanski and 8th-grader Adelia Davis were named to the all-tournament team.
"The first half was a very slow start for us," said Tioga coach Aubrey Worthing.
"In the third quarter we were awarded a penalty stroke and Cora was able to put us on the board with a great stroke.
"We found some momentum after that and put one more on the board," added Worthing. "The second goal started from a great decision from the wing to mid that turned into a give-and-go, then more pass connections across the forward line to Taylor (Sindoni) for a shot on goal at the stroke line."
After a scoreless first half, Szymanski put the Tigers on the board on a penalty stroke with 3:10 remaining in the third quarter.
Sophomore Taylor Sindoni, off an assist from sophomore Kaylene Sindoni, made it 2-0 with a goal with 12:57 left in the contest.
Newark Valley had an 8-5 advantage in shots-on-goal, and Tioga had a 5-4 edge in penalty corners.
Sophomore Vangie Decker recorded six saves in net for the Tigers in the first half, and Paige Fenton had two in the second half.
Tioga, now 2-1, hosts Sidney Tuesday.
