Valley Sports ReportTIOGA CENTER — Sophomore Grace Howey finished off her hat trick with a pair of second-half goals to lift Tioga to a come-from-behind, 3-2, win over Dryden here Tuesday afternoon in IAC girls soccer action at Haggerty Field.
"I told the girls this was a gusty win," said Tioga coach Jim Walsh.
"Being down 2-1, shutting (Dryden) out in the second half, being without a key player," said Walsh, noting Natalie Kemp missed the game due to illness. "They showed some real composure tonight.
"Of course, it was helped along with three unassisted goals by Grace Howey," he said. "She literally and figuratively exploded on the pitch tonight — her third goal was one for the highlight reel, storming hard left, left-footed blast to the lower-right corner.
"Senior goalkeeper Marcy Moniz had some high-quality saves tonight and certainly kept us in the game," added Walsh.
Howey put Tioga on the board early for a 1-0 lead, but Dryden scored twice before the intermission to take a 2-1 lead.
Howey's second-half goals lifted Tioga to a 3-2 win.
Tioga had a 13-11 edge in shots-on-goal, and Dryden had an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior Marcy Moniz recorded nine saves in net for the Tigers.
Tioga, now 2-2, returns to action Thursday night at O-M.
