Valley Sports ReportTHE VALLEY — This week has a season-high number of events on the docket, including a rare Thursday night football game for Athens, and a rare Saturday afternoon game for Sayre, as well as the NTL Golf Championships.
There are 46 events on this week's docket, including 13 on Tuesday and 10 on Thursday.
The following are all of the home varsity events this week, and a few of the notable road events:
MONDAY (5)
• The Athens boys host Galeton on the pitch at Alumni Stadium looking to avenge an early-season loss.
• Waverly volleyball hosts Chenango Valley.
• Tioga field hockey hosts Owego in a Section IV, Division III match-up.
TUESDAY (13)
• Tioga hosts a four-team cross-country meet — it's only home meet of the season.
• Athens hosts Delaware Valley in a non-league girls soccer match.
• Athens hosts Cowanesque Valley in an NTL volleyball match.
• The Tioga boys hosts IAC North foe Moravia on the soccer pitch at Haggerty Field.
• The Waverly girls are on the road at Chenango Valley in a STAC swim tri-meet that also includes Owego.
WEDNESDAY (6)
• Athens and Sayre square off on the links at Corey Creek in the final regular season golf match of the season.
• Athens hosts Williamson in the second boys soccer home match of the week.
THURSDAY (10)
• Athens hosts Towanda in a rare Thursday night football game at Alumni Stadium.
• Corey Creek hosts the NTL Golf Championships.
• Sayre volleyball hosts Wellsboro.
• The Waverly boys host Owego in a STAC golf match at Shepard Hills.
• Athens volleyball hosts NTL Small School power Williamson.
• Tioga field hockey hosts Maine-Endwell.
FRIDAY (7)
• Waverly hosts Horseheads in a non-division football game at Memorial Stadium.
• Tioga hosts Trumansburg at Haggerty Field looking to improve to 2-0 in divisional football play.
• Athens and Waverly will compete at the Owego Cross-Country Night Invite.
• The Tioga girls host Odessa-Montour on the soccer pitch.
• Waverly hosts Owego in a STAC girls tennis match.
SATURDAY (5)
• Sayre football is on the road at Wyalusing in a noon start seeking their second win in a row.
• The Athens boys host NEB in their third home game of the week.
