Valley Sports ReportOWEGO — Waverly senior Chase Hine and Athens junior Alissa Vough were the top Valley finishers in their respective varsity races here Friday at the Owego Night Cross-Country Invitational, while Athens' Rowan Morales and Evelyn Owen each ran to top-five finishes in the junior high races.
BOYS
Waverly finishes 15th, Athens 20th, Tioga 31st
Waverly placed 15th with 383 placement points, while Athens was tied for 20th with 461 points, and Tioga was 31st with 898 points.
Waverly placed eighth in the Small School ranks and Tioga was 20th, while Athens placed eight in the Large School field.
Senior Chase Hine led Waverly with a 16th-place finish in a time of 16:46.6, while junior Hayden Montanye was 53rd in 18:06.4, junior Drayton DeKay was 75th in 18:43.2, and sophomore Colten Santalucia was 125th in 19:53.7.
Junior Garret Akins was 128th in 19:59.1 for the Wolverines, and senior Parker Larson was 174th in 21:58.2.
Senior Matt Rossettie led Athens with a 30th-place finish in a time of 17:20.4, while senior Jacob Shores was 35th in 17:40.9, and senior Corbin Smith was 94th in 19:12.6.
Junior Alex Stedge finished 155th in 20:55 for the Wildcats, while sophomore Micah Simwale was 168th in 21:41.8, and freshman Austin Nason was 189th in 23:26.5.
Evan Preshur was Tioga's top runner, finishing 154th in a time of 20:54.4, while sophomore Logan Bensley was 198th in 24:52.8, junior Carter Allen was 201st in 25:13.9, freshman Andrew Mills was 204th in 25:55.9, and freshman Mason Rink was 209th in 27:37.1.
GIRLS
Athens' Vough runs to top-15 finish, Lady Wildcats finish 14th
Lady Wildcats finish 14th with 278 points, with Towanda, NEB, and Owego Free Academy finishing 1-2-3.
Junior Alissa Vough led Athens with a 12th-place finish in a time of 19:57.3, while sophomore Adaline Burnett was 76th in 24:02.7, and sophomore Stella Unger (24:14.9) and freshman Paisley Smith (24:17.0) were 80th and 81st, respectively.
Junior Tatyana Nasser finished 117th in 26:25.0, and Katyayini Kinthala was 116th in 26:27.0, and senior Haylie Horton was 131st in 27:41.0.
Senior Taylor Sinsabaugh finished 90th in a time of 24:54.4 as Waverly's only runner, while freshman Jaida Philhower (31:30.8) and junior Maddie Burrowes (37:17.4) finished 148th and 156th, respectively, for Tioga.
JUNIOR HIGH
Girls
Led by Evelyn Owen, Athens placed third in the team standings in the modified (junior high) girls 1.65-mile race. Waverly was 15th.
Owen finished fifth in a time of 10:48.1, while Lydia Single was 15th in 11:10.5, and Emma Manson was 39th in 12:19.9.
Celia Bennett finished 49th in a time of 12:35.0 for the junior Wildcats, while Penelope Metcalf was 53rd in 12:37.7, Cecilia Shangraw was 68th in a time of 12:50.1, Lilia Rossettie was 76th in 13:09.4, and Scarlett Eccker was 115th in 14:43.6.
Avery Hine led Waverly with a 25th-place in a time 11:44.9, while Shawna Granger was 85th in 13:23.6, and Braelynn Smith was 96th in 13:46.0.
Addalynn Thomas (14:09.8) and Lilyonna McConnell (14:16.7) were 108 and 109th, respectively, for the Wolverines, and Isabella Palanza was 135th in 17:21.4.
Jewel Burrowes (12:48.0) and Evelynne Waite (12:48.2) finished 62nd and 63rd to pace Tioga, while Amelia Encina-Brosius was 70th in 12:57.2, and Kendra Hosmer was 133rd in 16:58.5.
Boys
Athens' Rowan Morales was the top Valley finisher in the boys modified race, and Waverly finished 14th with the only complete team.
Morales placed fifth in a time of 9:30.3, while Tyler Horton was 17th in 10:10.7, Sawyer Nason was 29th in 10:37.5, and Isaac Janiszeski was 41st in 10:58.4.
Joseph Dorsey led Waverly with a 64th-place finish in a time of 11:37.2, while Parker Bruno was 108th in 12:00.7, Colton Fassett was 125th in 14:01.5, Skyler Decker was 143rd in 14:45.5, Wyatt Sinsabaugh was 146th in 14:53.0, and Marshall Williamson was 157th in 16:07.1.
Jerry Ryck finished 92nd in a time of 12:25.2 to pace Tioga, while Cameron Duvall was 123rd in 13:57.8, and Xavier Gomillion was 164th in 16:37.4.
