Valley Sports ReportWYALUSING — Athens won the first set, but Wyalusing tightened up its play and rolled to a 3-1 win here Saturday afternoon in NTL Large School Division volleyball action.
The Wildcats won the first set, 25-16, but the Rams bounced back with three straight wins, by scores of 25-17, 25-21, and 25-13.
"We played on our heels this afternoon," said Athens coach Heather Darrow. "We came out hot the first set and then Wyalusing stopped missing its serves in the second, third and fourth sets.
"We had a tough time passing their serves," she noted. "Honestly, we had a bit of a tough time with everything today.
"We had a tough time even keeping a free ball in today, so
now we see how the team responds to this. Does it fire them up to work harder and make sure we are ready to go?" added Darrow.
"Let's see what happens Tuesday."
Senior Meg Wiles has 12 service points, 25 setter assists, and six digs, and junior Ellie Mosher had seven points, including three aces, nine kills, nine assists, and seven digs to lead Athens.
"Ellie Mosher was very consistent and kept hitting the open spots," said Darrow. "We need all our hitters to do the same."
Sophomore Kayla Forbes had five points, 12 digs, and two kills for the Wildcats, while freshman Emi McQuay had four points, four kills and two digs, and senior Hannah Parrish had two points, four kills, and four digs.
Freshman Evelyn Roy had three points, five kills and seven digs in the win, while junior Lainey Vosburgh had four points, senior Emma Mallare added two blocks, and junior Kendall Galasso chipped in with two points.
Athens, now 6-3, returns to action Tuesday when it travels to NEB.
