STAC BOYS SOCCER: OWEGO BLOWS GAME OPEN IN SECOND HALF; BLANKS WAVERLY, 4-0 (2026-09-30)

WAVERLY — Owego Free Academy scored two in less than a minute early in the second half to blow open a one-goal game on its way to a 4-0 win over Waverly here Wednesday night in STAC Central Division boys soccer action at Memorial Stadium.

"We played a strong first half, we looked great and held our own," said Waverly coach Jon Rankin. "It was one of the best halves we have played this season. 

"We still have some nagging injuries we need to take care of, but we will be back in full form soon," added Rankin.

Fineas Duffy scored the only goal of the first half with 4:39 remaining until intermission to put the River Hawks up 1-0.

Adam Zaghoul scored two goals in a 59-second span to give Owego a 3-0 lead with 34:31 remaining in the contest.

Owego tacked on a goal late to provide the final margin.

Owego had a 12-3 advantage in shots-on-goal.

Junior James Cole recorded eight saves in net for the Wolverines.

Waverly, now 2-8, returns to action Friday night at Chenango Valley.
