MONTGOMERY — Freshman Lilah Carlson earned low-medal honors to lead Athens to a District 4, Class AA girls golf team championship here Wednesday at the White Deer Golf Course.
The Wildcats shot a three-player aggregate score of 274 to edge Loyalsock Township by 10 strokes, and Towanda by 16 strokes.
"I am very proud of how our girls played today," said Athens girls coach Mason Lyons. "It was a long day, but they stayed focused and motivated to contribute to the team's score.
"The message to the girls before the match started, was just like all the other golf matches — focus on each shot and make every shot count," he noted. "Let the results speak for themselves.
"They may not realize just how difficult of an achievement this was," said Lyons. "There were many good players today. Their commitment and determination to do their very best has really shined through. They have a lot to be proud of.
"At the end of the day, it was great to see the girls walking off the final green with smiles on their faces," he added.
Carlson shot an 84, with a 41 on the front nine and a 43 on the back nine of the 4,826-yard, par-72 course.
Junior Brooke Lyon carded a 90 (43-47), and junior Annie Davis punched her ticket to the District 4, Class AA Individual Championships with a 100 (50-50).
Sophomore Hailey Smith added a non-scoring round of 134.
The Wildcats advance to sub-regionals for the team championships on Oct. 13 at Fox Hill Country Club in Exeter, Pa.
The District 4, Class Individual Championships will be held Oct. 8 at the White Deer Golf Course.
