Week 6 of the high school football season is upon us, and the four Valley teams have a chance to go 4-0 for the second weekend in a row since the first two weekends in 2021. Last week was the first time Valley teams have gone 4-0 since Oct. 9, 2021.Once again, the week starts with a Thursday game with Waverly making the trip to Norwich, while Athens is the only team at home, hosting Wellsboro, Sayre is on the road at Canton, and Tioga is at Newark Valley.
Last week was a good one for the VSR Pigskin Prognosticators. The Mick, Country Bob, Little Red and I were all 10-1 on the week, while Madden & Summerall was 8-3.
On the season, The Mick still leads the way at 44-9, with Little Red on his heels at 43-10, Country Bob at 42-11, I am 41-23, and Madden & Summerall is looking up at the rest of us at 39-25.

Waverly (2-2) at Norwich (1-3): The Wolverines are coming off a 27-26 home win over Horseheads, while the Purple Tornadoes dropped a 36-15 decision on the road at Windsor.
Prediction: Norwich is sure to be playing with a little extra motivation, facing former teammates Cooper and Carter Chrystie, now integral parts of a Waverly offense that is averaging 27.5 points per game. Norwich has yielded 45.3 points per game in its three losses. ... WAVERLY 40, NORWICH 13.

Wellsboro (1-4) at Athens (4-1): The Wildcats are coming off a 48-21 rout of longtime rival Towanda, while the Hornets dropped a 49-12 decision at home to Troy.
Prediction: Athens senior QB Connor Davidson has been unstoppable against any team not named Troy. Wellsboro has played a tough schedule with Lakeland (5-0), Loyalsock (3-2), Canton (3-2) and Troy (4-1) a combined 15-5 record, and they've struggled in those games. ... ATHENS 41, WELLSBORO 14.

Prediction: The Cardinals are well-coached and always play Tioga tough, but the Tigers seemed to be finding a bit of an identity behind senior QB Jackson Bombard. ... TIOGA 26, NEWARK VALLEY 12.

Sayre (2-3) at Canton (3-2): The Redskins are coming off a 41-12 win over Wyalusing, while the Warriors were routed by South Williamsport, 56-0.
Prediction: Sayre is riding its first two-game win streak since 2021. Neither team has been competitive against the top teams in Class A. ... CANTON 22, SAYRE 20.

Prediction: Towanda has dropped three in a row, while CV has won two in a row after starting the season 0-3. I have to believe the Black Knights get back on track this week. ... TOWANDA 41, CV 6.
