STAC GIRLS SOCCER: CHENANGO VALLEY EDGES WAVERLY, 2-0 (2026-10-08)

Valley Sports Report
BINGHAMTON — Chenango Valley scored midway through the second half to break a scoreless tie, then tacked on an insurance goal in the final minute in a 2-0 win over Waverly here Thursday night in STAC Central Division girls soccer action.

The Warriors improve to 9-2 with the win, while the Wolverines fall to 5-6-1.

"This was another hard-fought game," said Waverly coach Tara Hogan.

"We made some positional errors in the first half, but thanks to our defenders always being there, CV wasn't able to take advantage," noted Hogan.

"With Makenzie Olmsted continuing to hold down our defense, CV didn't have as many opportunities this game," said Hogan. "CV couldn't make their way through our defenders so we forced them to shoot from a distance.  We just again couldn't get that last step to work and get our shots on goal."

After more than 54 minutes of scoreless action, CV Tiffany Schaefer scored to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.

They scored again with 34 seconds remaining to ice the victory.

"Gianna Soprano was everywhere we needed her to be tonight," said Hogan. "And, Ryleigh Judson had some good movement when she had time up top."

Chenango Valley had a 15-4 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Sophomore Taylin Gonzalez recorded 14 saves in net for the Wolverines.

"Taylin had a busy night tonight," said Hogan. "She handled the pressure very well."

Waverly wraps up the regular season Tuesday at Horseheads.
