HORSEHEADS — Horseheads score twice early in the second half to blow open a one-goal game on its way to a 5-0 win over Waverly here Tuesday night in non-league girls soccer action.
"Horseheads is always an incredibly strong team," said Waverly coach Tara Hogan. "This is a great experience for us to see a bigger local team.
"We had a solid first half, where our midfielders and defenders worked especially well together," noted Hogan. "It's that last step — getting the ball successfully to our forwards — where we see the effort, but fall short in execution.
"The girls fought hard for 80 minutes and we were able to get some decent shots off this game," added Hogan. "We also had a few solid passing sequences that helped move us up the field."
Sydney Blunt scored the only goal of the first half to give the Blue Raiders a 1-0 lead at the half.
Blunt scored again in the second half, Madison Ribble scored a pair of goals, and Sonya Dordoni added one goal.
Horseheads had a 19-6 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
Taylin Gonzalez had six saves in net for the Wolverines, and Carson LaFrance recorded eight.
Waverly wraps up the regular season at 5-7-1.
