STATE COLLEGE — Athens freshman Lilah Carlson was one stroke better than her opening round on Day 2 of the PIAA Class AA Girls Golf Championships to finish 20th here Tuesday afternoon on Penn State Blue Course.

Carlson, who shot an 87 on Day, shot an 86 in round two for a two-day total of 173, dropping from 19th to 20th on the leaderboard.

"It was another great day for Lilah on the course," said Athens coach Mason Lyon. "She came into the day motivated to do her best, and had a goal to do better than the day before.

"Playing multiple days in a row is exhausting, and to see Lilah have her best nine-hole score on the back nine today, was a testament to her endurance and focus.

"For Lilah to finish top 20 in the State as a freshman, makes me excited to see what she can do in the future," added Lyon.

Like round one, Carlson had three pars on the front nine, and three pars on the back nine. She also had one fewer double-bogey in the round.

Shady Side's Alyssa Zhang finished with a 3-under par two-day total of 141 after shooting an even-par 72 on Tuesday. She topped runner-up JoJo Jaskulski of Chartiers-Houston (73-78) ny 10 strokes.

Carlson will compete with her teammates — juniors Brooke Lyon and Annie Davis — Wednesday in the PIAA, Class AA Girls Team Championships. The Wildcats, who lost to Tunkhannock in the Sub-Regionals, earned an at-large bid to States.
