ONEONTA — Third-seeded Waverly earned splits with the top seeds, and finished 3-3, but came up short here Thursday in Section IV, Class B semi-final pool play action.
Top-seeded Oneonta, and second-seeded Windsor both finished 4-2 to advance to this weekend'd Class B finals. Chenango Valley finished at 1-5.
Waverly's downfall was a split with Chenango Valley, while the top two seeds both swept the Warriors.
"I’m really proud of the girls and how we showed up today," said Waverly coach Hailee Rote. "Taking a set from the number-1 and number-2 seeds was huge for us. It just proved how far we have come, how hard we have worked, and that we can play with anyone.
"I wish we would have made it to finals, but I can’t be mad about the outcome of today and I’m really happy for the girls," added Rote. "The girls played hard, fought for every point and proved themselves today. Each game was close to the very end and we never let up."
The Wolverines dropped a 25-20 decision to Oneonta, then beat the Yellowjackets, 25-22.
Waverly dropped a 25-23 decision to Chenango Valley, then bounced back with a 25-18 win over the Warriors.
Waverly lost its first set to Windsor, 25-20, then rallied to win a 25-23 decision over the Black Knights.
The Wolverines wrap up the season at 12-6 and graduate three seniors in Emma Randall, Mady Briggs, and Ava Heath.
"The seniors have meant so much to our program and have been a huge part in the growth and success we have had," said Rote. "All three seniors have been on varsity since 10th grade and will leave a hole in our team next season.
"They have been great role models for our young team and their impact will continue to live on in our program," added Rote. "I can’t wait to see what they accomplish and hope they continue to come back and support our program."
