CHENANGO FORKS — Waverly’s Chase Hine will finish his high school cross country career at the state meet after qualifying fourth at the Section IV Class C championships held at Chenango Valley State Park here Thursday.

The senior posted a time of 17:34.3 and overall, was pleased with his effort.

“I felt like I did good,” he said. “I burnt out a little in the end, but mostly I was just working towards outworking the Sidney kid (Owen Mott) and I did. He didn't really try to pass me at the end there.”

Hine is looking forward to having the opportunity to run in the state meet again.

“It feels very good,” he said. “It hurts that nobody else is going with me on the team, but it is what it is.”

Hine has set a big goal for himself at this year’s state meet.

“It's to do way better than I did last year,” he said. “Last year I was sick during it, so I didn't have the best performance, but this year I want to get at least top 100.”

Hayden Montanye finished in the top 10 also, placing ninth with a time of 18:16.4.

Drayton Dekay crossed the finish line in 18th place, recording a time of 19:11.6. Colten Santalucia was 30th in 19:59.2 and Jack Shaw was 46th, clocking 21:09.7.
