VALLEY SPORTS REPORT: WAVERLY'S MASTRANTUONO TOPS BOYS TRACK & FIELD "SUPER 7" — ATHENS' MOYER TOP NEWCOMER (7 PHOTOS) (2015-06-23)

THE VALLEY — Waverly junior Josh Mastrantuono pulled everything together at the perfect time to win a state title in the pole vault and earn the 2015 “Male Track & Field Athlete of the Year.”

Mastrantuono, who was consistently vaulting 12-feet, 6-inches through the season, cleared a personal-best 14-feet to finish second at the Section IV Championship. He duplicated his efforts in tough conditions at the state meet to claim gold.

The 2015 "Newcomer of the Year" is Athens junior Joe Moyer, who consistently improved throughout his first varsity season.

Moyer finished fourth in javelin and seventh in the high jump at District 4 Championships. He was fourth in the javelin and eighth in the high jump at the NTL meet.

Joey Galizia, senior, Sayre: Galizia was a double-winner at the District 4 Track & Field Championships, claiming gold in the long jump and triple jump.

Galizia, who also won gold in the triple and long jumps at the NTL Championships, earned a sixth-place medal in the triple jump at the PIAA Championships.

Adam Moore, senior, Sayre: Moore was a runner-up in the 800-meter run at the District 4 meet, earning a trip to the PIAA Championships.

Moore also won the 800 and was on the winning 3,200-meter relay at the NTL Championships.

Kalen Keathley, sophomore, Athens: Keathley finished second in the 100-meter dash in the District 4  meet to earn a trip to the PIAA Championships. He was also fourth in the 200-meter dash.

Keathley won the 100-meter dash and was third in the 200-meter dash at the NTL meet

Nick Sweet, senior, Sayre:
Sweet met the state standard in the 400-meter run to qualify for a return trip to the PIAA championships.

Sweet also earned three medals at the NTL meet, including a gold in the 3,200-meter relay.

Josh Kithcart, senior, Tioga: Kithcart capped a strong season with a school-record in the shot put and a second-place finish at the Section IV State Qualifier. He also finished ninth in the discus.

Kithcart also was fifth in both the discus and shot put at Class C meet and won a gold medal in the discus and a silver in the shot put at the IAC Championships. He also ran on a strong regular-season 400-meter relay team for the Tigers.

Tyler Solomon, senior, Athens:
Solomon finished second in the pole vault at the District 4 Championships and ran on the third-place 400-meter relay.

He won the pole vault at NTL Championships and was on a second-place 400-meter relay.
