Valley Sports Report
WAVERLY — Waverly junior Cassy Bowman missed a trip to the New York State bowling championships by 14 pins here Friday at the Section IV, State Qualifier at the Valley Bowling Center.

Union-Endicott won the Section IV team title and a berth at the state championships with a nine-game set (three at Class sectionals and six Friday) of 8,000, more than 300 pins better than runner-up Horseheads, which tallied 7,667 pins. Susquehanna Valley was third with 7,243, Windsor was fourth at 6,943, and Waverly was seventh at 6,519.

Edison’s Michelle Bonyak will lead the Section IV all-stars (the top six bowlers not on U-E) into action at the state tournament.

Bonyak rolled a nine-game total of 1,610 and was third overall, behind U-E’s Alexis Ripic and Christin Shara, who shot 1,768 and 1,717, respectively.

Elmira’s Loghan Wagner, Sus. Valley’s Rachel Weyant, Horseheads’ Michelle Williams, Hancock’s Brenna Gleim, and Windsor’s Abby Harder round out the Section IV team. Candor’s Nicole Gates finished seventh and is the alternate.

Bowman was near the top of the leaderboard after rolling a 593 series in the morning session Friday, but her 455 series in the afternoon dropped her to ninth with a nine-game set of 1,557 — just 14 pins shy of Harder’s count.

Waverly senior Rubina Tracy finished 31st with a nine-game set of 1,379.
