ATHENS LITTLE LEAGUE (MINORS): WILLIAMS NISSAN EDGES I-R FCU, 13-12, IN FINAL AT-BAT (2017-06-10)

ATHENS — Dylan Saxon knocked home Kamdyn Wheeler in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift Williams Nissan to a 13-12 win over I-R Federal Credit Union here Friday evening in Athens Little League Minors Division baseball action.

I-R FCU scored five runs in the top of the third to take a 6-3 lead in a back-and-forth affair, but Williams Nissan countered with five runs in the home of the frame to push back ahead again, at 8-6.

After Williams Nissan tacked on two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to take an 11-6 lead, I-R FCU scored six runs in the top of the sixth in a rally highlighted by Deven Almodovar’s two-run double to take a 12-6 lead.

Oliver Johnson led off the inning with a single and Wheeler worked a walk to put runners on first and second. After an error off the bat of Kolsen Keathley tied the game, Saxon grounded out to shortstop, but Wheeler scampered home with the winning run.

Johnson was 4-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, and three RBI to pace Williams Nissan’s eight-hit attack, and Kolsen Keathley singled twice, scored two runs, and drove in a run.

Austyn Stedge singled, scored two runs and drove in a run in the win, while Chase Satterly singled, scored a run, and knocked in a run, Wheeler and Hayden Bartlow, who also had an RBI, each scored a pair of runs, Saxon scored a run and drove in a run, Gavin Lambert had an RBI, and Ethan Kinner crossed the plate once.

Almodovar doubled and singled, scored one run, and had two RBI, and Cooper Robinson tripled and singled, and scored three runs to pace I-R FCU’s attack at the plate, while Matthias Welles singled twice, scored one run, and knocked in a run.

Eli Chapman tripled, scored one run, and had three RBI for the I-R FCU, while Braden Quinn singled, scored one run, and had three RBI, and Karson Sipley, Josh Courtney, Mackenzie Cole, Cyrus Lantz, and Jacob Alexander each crossed the plate once.
