ELMIRA HEIGHTS — Sayre bounced back from a loss Saturday morning to hold off West Elmira in a decisive winner-take-all championship game of the Elmira Heights Wooden Bat Tournament here Saturday afternoon.

West Elmira, which won the consolation bracket, topped Sayre 12-1 to force the decisive title tilt in the double-elimination tournament, which Sayre won 12-11 after taking an early 11-0 lead.

Championship Game 1
West Elmira 12, Sayre 1

West Elmira scored 12 runs in the home half of the first inning and cruised to a 12-1 four-inning win over Sayre Saturday morning.

Kaden Bennett, Zack Garrity, and Tanner Green each singled, and Kegan Hayford scored a run to account for Sayre’s offense in the loss.

Championship Game 2
Sayre 12, West Elmira 11

In direct contrast to the first game, Sayre scored 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning, then held on for a 12-10 win to claim the Elmira Height Wooden Bat Tournament title.

Garrity tripled and singled and scored two runs, and Jackson Hubbard doubled, walked, and scored two runs to lead Sayre’s decisive rally.

West Elmira trimmed the Sayre lead to 11-10 after 4 1/2 innings, but Garrity tripled and scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to provide a key insurance run.

Garrity had four hits, including two triples, and scored three runs to lead Sayre at the plate, while Bennett singled twice and scored a run, and Hubbard doubled and scored two runs.

Kegan Hayford, Colton Watkins, Aiden Ennis and Thomas Morley each singled and scored a run in the win, while Jack Ennis added a single, and Will Crossett scored a run.
