JUNIOR HIGH BASKETBALL: ATHENS OPENS EPIPHANY LEAGUE WITH TWO WINS; SAYRE WINS FIRST GAME (2017-11-05)

SAYRE The newly-established Epiphany Junior High Travel Basketball League tipped off Saturday with Athens winning a pair of games, and Sayre winning the other game.

Athens 49, Towanda 20
The junior Wildcats ran out to a 24-5 halftime lead en route to a 49-20 win over Towanda in the season-opener.

Troy Pritchard pumped in 10 first-half points, and Mason Lister, J.J. Babcock, and Ryan Thompson each scored four points as Athens raced out to a 19-point fist-half lead.

Lister scored six points in the second half as Athens put the game away.

Pritchard led all scorers with 14 points, while Lister scored 10, Thompson added eight, and Babcock, and Lucas Kraft chipped in with four points apiece.

Athens 54, Canton 39
Athens used a balanced attack to post a 54-39 win over Canton in the second of back-to-back games Saturday.

Shayne Reid scored nine points, and Pritchard had eight points in the first half, while Babcock and Lister added four points apiece as Athens jumped out to a 29-20 lead.

Pritchard added eight more points in the second half, while Lister scored six, and Babcock added five points.

Pritchard led Athens with 16 points, while Reid scored 12 points, Lister added 10 points, and Babcock chipped in with nine points.

Sayre 65, Big Flats 15
Sayre poured in 41 points in the first 20 minutes to build a 41-8 halftime lead en route to a 65-15 win over Big Flats.

Dylan Watkins pumped in 14 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, in the first half, while Lucas Horton scored 12 points, and David Northrup added nine points, including two 3-pointers.

In the second half, Jackson Hubbard paced Sayre with eight points, while Horton had six points, and Dom Fabbri added five points, including a 3-pointer.

Horton led Sayre with 18 points, while Watkins scored 16 points, Northrup had nine points, Hubbard added eight points, and Fabbri chipped in with seven points.



On Wednesday Big Flats squares off with Mansfield at 5:30 p.m., while Sayre plays Canton at 6:45 p.m., and Sayre tangles with Towanda at 8 p.m.
