NTL JUNIOR HIGH GIRLS BASKETBALL: ATHENS WINS FIVE IN A ROW TO CLAIM TITLE AT WYALUSING ICE BREAKER TOURNEY (2018-01-10)

WYALUSING The Athens junior high girls basketball team went 5-0 to win the team title here Saturday at the Wyalusing Junior High Girls Ice Breaker Tournament.

Pool play
Athens 24, Blue Ridge 11

Kennedy Westbrook scored 15 points to lead Athens to a 24-11 win over Blue Ridge in the opening game of pool play.

Westbrook scored four points in the first half to help Athens to a 9-3 lead at the half.

Westbrook pumped in 11 points after the intermission to help Athens secure the run with a 15-8 run.

Athens 34, Wyalusing-1 14
Eight different players found the scoring column in a 34-14 rout of Wyalusing-1 in pool play.

Emma Bronson and Olivia Bartlow scored four points in the first half, and five of their teammates added a bucket to help Athens to an 18-5 lead at the half.

Kennedy Westbrook scored seven points, including a 3-pointer, in the second half, and Bronson and Karlee Bartlow added four points apiece in the second half.

Athens 21, Wyalusing-2 16
Athens pulled out a 21-16 win over Wyalusing-2 to improve to 3-0 in pool play.

Kennedy Westbrook knocked down a 3-pointer and scored seven points in the first half to help Athens to a 15-10 lead.

Taylor Walker and Karlee Bartlow scored buckets in a low-scoring second-half to help Athens secure the win.

Athens 22, Troy 14
Kennedy Walker scored 14 points to lead Athens to a 22-14 win over Troy in the final game of pool play.

Westbrook scored six points in the first half to help Athens to an 8-4 lead.

In the second half, Westbrook scored eight points, and Hannah Walker added four points as Athens outscored Troy 14-10.

Championship Game
Athens 24, Elk Lake 20

Kennedy Westbrook pumped in 14 points to lead Athens to a come-from-behind 24-20 win over Elk Lake in the championship game.

Elk Lake led 14-12 at the half, but Westbrook scored eight points after the intermission to spark a 12-6 second-half run.

Karlee Bartlow added four points in the win for Athens.
