SAYRE — Sayre senior Caleb McClelland, who broke a school record, was a quadruple-winner, but Athens won its fifth consecutive NTL Swimming & Diving Championship team title, despite winning just one event here Tuesday afternoon.

The Wildcats used superior depth to tally 162 points, while runner-up Towanda had 139 points, and third-place Sayre had 91 points. Wellsboro was fourth with 36 points, and North Penn-Mansfield was fifth with 18 points.

Caleb McClelland won the 200-yard freestyle in a school-record time of 1:48.16, while Sayre junior Josh McClelland was second in 1:55.23, and Athens senior Andrew Juhola was third in 2:12.08.

Caleb McClelland also won the 500-yard freestyle in a  time of 5:01.49.

The McClellands, teamed with juniors Joey Stermer, and Matt Beers teamed to win the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:52.86. The same foursome also won the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:39.41.

Juhola teamed with freshman Mason Henderson, and seniors Bishop Rohnin, and Shawn Shaw for the Wildcats’ lone win in the meet-closing 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:47.88.

Juhola finished second in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 58.1 seconds, and Athens senior Evan Menard was third in 59.02 seconds.

Shaw finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:09.72, and Stermer was fourth in 1:16.45.

Henderson finished second in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:18.08.

Josh McClelland finished second in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:01.47, while Shaw was third in 1:02.12, and Bishop was fourth in 1:05.14.

Athens junior Trent Nevill was third in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.95 seconds, and Menard was fourth in 26.28 seconds.

Athens senior Sean Waltman finished third in the 1-meter diving competition with a six-dive score of 207.35 points, and Stermer was fourth with 183.9 points.

Athens and Sayre will return to action at the District 4 Championships on Feb. 28 and March 1.
