OWEGO — The Athens 7th- & 8th-grade boys travel basketball team wrapped up a perfect 16-0 season in the Owego League with wins over Owego and Candor Sunday.

Athens 38, Owego 6
Athens limited Owego to just three field goals, and cruised to a 38-6 win.

J.J. Babcock scored nine points in the first half, and Mason Lister added four points to help Athens to a 19-2 halftime lead.

Pritchard added points in the second half, and Lister added four in a 19-4 second-half run to secure the win.

Pritchard scored 12 points to lead Athens, while Babcock had 11 points, Lister added 10 points, and Tucker Brown chipped in with five points.

Athens 57, Candor 46

J.J. Babcock knocked down four 3-pointers, and scored 14 points in the first half to help Athens to a 13-point lead en route to a 57-46 win over Candor.

Mason Lister and Troy Pritchard scored seven points apiece in the first half as Athens built a 34-21 lead at the intermission.

Pritchard scored nine points in the second half to help Athens secure the win.

Babcock and Pritchard led Athens with 16 points apiece, while Lister added nine points, and Lucas Kraft added four points, including a 3-pointer.

Athens 41, Waverly 30

On Feb. 18, Athens posted a 41-30 win over Waverly in Owego League play.

Mason Lister knocked down a 3-pointer, and scored five points in the first quarter, and Carson Smith also canned a 3-pointer to help Athens to a 10-6 lead.

Troy Pritchard scored all eight of Athens’ points in the second quarter to help the junior ‘Cats stretch its lead to 18-11 at the half.

Caden Hollywood, and Nalen Carling each connected on 3-pointers in the first half to keep Waverly in the game.

After an even third quarter left Athens up 25-18 entering the final quarter, Athens outscored Waverly 14-12 to close out the game.

Lister scored five points in the fourth quarter, and Troy Pritchard added four to pace Athens, while Liam Traub scored seven points for Wavily, and Davis Croft added a 3-pointer.

Pritchard led Athens with 17 points, while Lister scored 11, Shayne Reid added six points, and Tucker Brown chipped in with four.

Liam Traub led Waverly with eight points, while Joey Tomasso added six points, and Croft added five.

The Athens travel team improves to 52-7 overall on the season.
