TROY — The Valley-based Eclipse 14U travel volleyball team won the Nightmare Tournament here Sunday at the Troy Commons Building with a 2-1 win over EVC Thunder in the finals.

The Eclipse, coached by Tioga grad Sarah Heveland, won its pool with a 5-2 record, then swept the Lady Blue Indians in the semifinals to advance to the championship match.

“It was a great team effort,” said Heveland.

Pool Play
Eclipse 25-25, EVC Heat 21-13

The Eclipse swept EVC Heat by scores of 25-21 and 25-13 in the opening match of pool play.

Sayre’s Ellie Boyle led the Eclipse with 12 points, including six aces, and three digs, and Athens’ Taylor Walker had seven points, including six aces.

Eclipse 25-24, Nightmare 21-26

The Eclipse opened with a 25-21 win over the Nightmare, but the hosts bounced back with a 26-24 win in the second game.

Athens Ally Martin had four kills, and two service aces, and Athens’ Jenny Ryan doled out six setter assists for the Eclipse.

Eclipse 26-21-15, EVC Thunder 24-25-8

The Eclipse opened the final match of pool play with a 26-24 win, and closed it out with a 15-8 win in the decisive third set. In between, EVC Thunder forced a third game with a 25-21 win.

Boyle led the Eclipse with eight points, including five aces, and three assists, while Sayre’s Maddi Belles had four points and four digs, and Athens’ Emberlynne Kohler had four points (three aces), six digs, and three kills.


Eclipse 26-25, Lady Blue Indians 24-17

The Eclipse advanced to the championship match with a sweep of the Lady Blue Indians by scores of 26-24, and 25-17.

Sayre’s Allison Post led the Eclipse with nine points and 10 digs, while Sayre’s Gianna Quattrini had seven points, and five kills, Boyle had five points (three aces), five assists, and three digs, Walker added five points, five digs, and three kills, and Ryan chipped in with two points, and seven assists.

Eclipse 27-23-15, EVC Thunder 25-25-5

After splitting the first two sets — the Eclipse winning the first 27-25, and the Thunder winning the second 25-23, the Eclipse rolled to a 15-5 win in the decisive final set.

Quattrini registered 11 points and nine kills, and Kohler had 11 points, four kills, and three digs to lead the Eclipse, while Walker recorded 10 points, five kills, and four digs, and Boyle had eight points, eight assists, and four digs.

Ryan dished out 11 assists in the win, while Sayre’s Rachael Vandemark recorded 10 digs, Belles chipped in with six digs, and Martin registered five kills.
