NEW YORK STATE BOWLING: WAVERLY'S BRIGGS, BOWMAN CAP STELLAR CAREERS WITH APPEARANCE AT STATES (2018-03-11)

SYRACUSE  Waverly seniors Nick Briggs and Cassy Bowman closed out stellar careers on the lanes with an appearance at the New York State Bowling Championships here Saturday night at the OnCenter Convention Center.

Briggs finished 42nd with an average of 163.33 over six games, while Bowman was 49th with an average of 148.17.

BOYS
Briggs opened the night with a 479 series on games of 164, 139, and 176, which put him 44th in the field of 68 bowlers.

He closed out the night with a 501 series on games 154, 133, and 214 to move up two spots on the leaderboard.

Anthony Cioffi of Section XI won the individual gold with a six-game set of 1,267, while Cameron Hurwitz of Section V was second with a 1,236, and Tom Klenke of Section VI was third with a 1,212.

Cioffi was a model of consistency with his low game being a 187. He had four games of 200 or better, including a 237. Hurwitz rolled games of 265 and 247 in the second session and finished with a 686, compared to a 550 in the first session.

Nick Lapicola of Vestal was Section IVs top finisher at 15th with a six-game set of 1,139.

The Section IV boys finished sixth in the team standings with a six-game set of 5,394 just 14 pins behind Section II, but well off the pace of team champion Section XI, which tallied 5963 pins. Section V was second with 5,925, and Section VIII was third at 5,800.

GIRLS
Bowman was 41st after here first three games with a 452 series on games of 144, 160, and 148.

She closed out the day with a 437 on games of 123, 150, and 164 to drop to the 49th in the field of 68 bowlers.

Section IIIs Megan Guernsey won the individual gold with a six-game set of 1,148. She threw a 598 in the first session, and a 550 in the second.

Section VIs Cameron Spring won the silver medal with an 1,128 (565 in the first session, and 563 in the second), and Section XIs Julie Bocamazo claimed the bronze with an 1,125 (576, 549).

The Section IV girls team finished sixth with a six-game set of 2,589. Section XI won the team title with a 5,595, while Section III was second at 5,495, and Section VI was third with 5,254 pins.
