MEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: WAVERLY GRAD WARD FINISHES STRONG IN FRESHMAN SEASON AT CORNING (2018-03-11)

HERKIMER, N.Y. — Waverly grad Jon Ward finished his freshman season on the Corning Community College men’s basketball team with four double-doubles in the team’s final five games.

Ward scored 17 points, hauled down 11 boards, and blocked six shots in a 97-94 loss to Finger Lakes , then pumped in 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in a 98-90 win over Broome Community.

In the final regular-season game, an 81-78 loss to Jefferson Community College, Ward scored 18 points, pulled down 11 rebounds, and dished out six assists.

In the conference tournament semifinals, Ward was plagued by foul trouble. He scored 10 points, had four rebounds, and blocked five shots.

In the Region III quarterfinals, Ward had 15 points, 10 rebounds, six blocked shots, and two steals in Croning’s 97-77 loss to Herkimer.

On the season, Ward, who led the team with 3.1 blocked shots per game, was fifth on the team at 10 points per game, and fourth with 6.9 rebounds per game. He also had 21 assists, and 15 steals.

Ward, who started in 24 of Corning’s 25 games, was third on the team with a 47.7 shooting percentage from the field.
