WAVERLY — A trio of Waverly pitchers limited Newfield to two hits, and the Lady Wolverines took advantage of 27 base on balls to post a 32-0 win over Newfield here Wednesday afternoon in IAC softball action.

Sophomore Riley Hall started in the pitcher’s circle and earned the win, pitching two innings of two-hit ball, while striking out five.

Freshman Alyssa Sindoni pitched two innings, striking out one and walking one, and freshman Hali Jenner retired the side in order in the fifth inning with one strikeout.

In the bottom of the first inning, Waverly took four straight base on balls to take a 1-0 lead, then junior Jordan Mente cleared the bases with a grand slam home run over the left-field fence to make it 5-0.  It was the start of a 13-run rally that also included a two-run double and an RBI triple by sophomore Paige Lewis, an RBI double by Zoe Mennig, and an RBI single by senior Katie Goodwin.

The Lady Wolverines added 10 runs in the second inning in a rally that included RBI singles by Hall, Mente, Lewis, Sindoni, and six bases-loaded walks.

Lewis tripled, doubled, and singled, scored three runs, and had four RBI to lead Waverly’s 13-hit attack, while Mente homered and singled, scored two runs, and drove in five runs, Mennig doubled and singled, scored four runs, and had three RBI, and Sindoni stroked a pair of singles, scored three runs, and drove in one run.

Junior Wendi Hammond doubled, scored five runs, stole three bases, and drove in two runs for the Lady Wolverines, while Hall singled, scored twice, and had three RBI, Jenner singled, scored one run, and drove in two runs, and Goodwin singled, scored three times, and had three RBI.

Senior Paige Miller scored three runs, stole two bases, and drove in one run in the win, while junior Rebecca Peake scored two runs, and drove in two runs, and junior Morgan Adams scored two runs.

Waverly, now 3-0, hosts Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Thursday at 5 p.m.
