Valley Sports Report
ELMIRA HEIGHTS — Edison scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning en route to a 6-2 win over Tioga here Wednesday afternoon in IAC softball action.
The Lady Tigers got on the board first on a solo home run to center field by senior Mariah Culver to lead off the second inning, but the Lady Spartans answered decisively with a four-run rally that featured six singles, and a costly Tioga error.
Senior Madalyn Dydynski belted a one-out double in the top of the fourth inning, and scored on a two-out error to trim the deficit to 4-2.
After being retired in order in the fifth and sixth innings, seniors Marissa Howe, and Kurstan Martin led off the seventh inning with back-to-back singles, but a pair of fielder’s choice groundouts, and a strikeout ended the game.
Culver homered, and Dydynski doubled and scored a run to lead Tioga’s four-hit attack, while Martin and senior Sara Strong each singled and stole a base.
Culver was tagged with the loss, allowing six runs — all earned — on 12 hits, while striking out five and walking one in six innings.
Tioga, now 3-1, returns to action Saturday at Sayre in a 2 p.m. start.
