ELMIRA HEIGHTS — Edison senior Nate Chorney threw a six-hitter to lead Edison to a 2-0 win over Tioga here Wednesday afternoon in IAC baseball action.
Chorney fanned 11 and walked one in a route-going performance to earn the win.
Chorney, who stroked a one-out single in the bottom of the second inning, scampered home on a passed ball to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead.
Edison added an insurance run in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead.
The Tigers had two good scoring opportunities early in the game, but could not convert.
With two outs in the second inning, sophomores Brady Worthing and Thomas Cook stroked consecutive singles, but Chorney recorded a strikeout to end the threat.
Senior Connor Hutchinson led off the top of the fourth inning with a double, but was stranded there.
The Tigers had seven batters reach base in the game, and five of them reached with two outs.
Cook stroked a pair of singles, and Hutchinson doubled to pace Tioga’s six-hit attack, while Worthing and juniors Pierce Hendershot,and Derrick Barto had one hit apiece.
Hendershot was tagged with the loss, allowing two runs on five hits in six innings of work. He struck out eight and walked three.
Tioga, now 2-1, hosts Candor Friday, and Sayre Saturday.
