|IAC SOFTBALL: S-VE FALLS TO ITHACA IN CHAMPIONSHIP GAME OF TRUMANSBURG SPRING SLAM (2018-04-14)

TRUMANSBURG — S-VE registered its first win of the season Saturday morning with a 15-7 decision over Trumansburg in the semifinals of the Trumansburg Spring Slam, but dropped a 10-2 decision to Ithaca in the championship game later in the day.
S-VE 15, Trumansburg 7
S-VE rallied from an early deficit to post a 15-7 five-inning win over Trumansburg in the semifinals Saturday morning.
Maralee Rose stroked a two-out single in the top of the first inning, and Korah Russell drove her home with an RBI single to make it 1-0.
Trumansburg answered with a three-run rally in the home half of the first inning, but their lead was short-lived as the Lady Panthers scored five runs in the top of the second inning.
S-VE quickly loaded the bases on singles by Daisy Vallely and Mackenzie Jones, sandwiched around a walk to Hannah Harmon. A passed ball trimmed the deficit to 3-2, then Lauren Chiusano singled in a run to tie the game at 3-3.
Rorick stroked a one-out, two-run single to give the Lady Panthers a 5-3, and Rose knocked in the final run of rally with a sacrifice fly to make it 6-3.
After S-VE scored a run in the top of the third, Trumansburg scored two runs in the fourth inning to pull within two runs, at 7-5.
The Panthers blew the game open with eight runs in the top of the fifth inning in a rally two Trumansburg errors, three walks, and back-to-back two-RBI singles by Rose and Russell to cap the scoring.
Rose singled twice, scored three runs, and had three RBI, and Russell singled twice, scored one run and had three RBI to lead S-VE’s 11-hit attack, while Madi Sousa singled twice and scored a run, and Rorick doubled, scored two runs, and drove in two run.
Vallely and Harmon each singled and scored two runs in the win, and Jones and Chiusano each singled, scored a run, and drove in a run.
Rorick earned the win in the pitcher’s circle. She struck out four.
Ithaca 10, S-VE 2
S-VE scored first, but Ithaca scored the last 10 runs of the game in a 10-2 five-inning win Saturday afternoon in the championship game of the Trumansburg Spring Slam.
Daysha Rorick led off the game with a single, and Maralee hit a one-out home run to give the Lady Panthers a 2-0 lead.
Korah Russell worked a walk, and Hannah Harmon belted a two-out double to put runners on second and third, but Ithaca hurler Jenna Plue was able to strand the runners in scoring position, which turned out to be the start of a negative trend for the Lady Panthers, who stranded 10 runners in the game, including six in scoring position.
Ithaca scored three runs in each of the first three innings to take a 9-2 lead, and tacked on an insurance run in the fourth inning.
Rorick singled twice and scored a run, and Harmon doubled and singled to pace S-VE at the plate, while Rose homered and Russell singled.
Rorick was tagged with the loss. She struck out five.
Plus earned the win for the Little Red. She fanned 11.
S-VE, now 1-4, returns to action Monday when it hosts S-VE.
