ELMIRA HEIGHTS — Bella Willsey scattered six hits to lead Edison to a 3-1 win over Waverly here Thursday afternoon in IAC South Large School Division softball action.
With the win, the Lady Spartans clinched the division title.
Edison scored unearned runs in each of the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead, and pushed another run across in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Haley Maggs to make it 3-0.
The Lady Wolverines got on the board in the top of the fifth inning with an unearned run to trim the deficit to 3-1, but Willsey retired the final seven batters she faced, including the final six via strikeouts.
Freshman Hali Jenner, and junior Jordan Mente each stroked a pair of singles to pace Waverly at the plate, while junior Kari VanAllen singled and scored a run, and sophomore Riley Hall added a single.
Hammond allowed three runs — one earned — on six hits in six innings of work. She struck out six, and walked none.
Willsey allowed one unearned run on six hits in a complete-game, seven-inning outing. She fanned 12 and walked none.
Michelle Bonyak singled twice, and scored two runs to lead Edison at the plate.
Waverly, now 12-4, returns to action Monday at Johnson City.
